Forex Session
Specific periods of the day when major global financial centers are actively trading.
Plain-English Meaning
Because forex is a global 24/5 market, it does not have a single open or close time. Instead, trading moves across the globe through major financial hubs: Sydney, Tokyo, London, and New York.
Why It Matters
Different sessions have different levels of activity (volatility) and volume. The market is typically most active when two major sessions overlap, such as the London and New York sessions.
Simple Example
The London session opening is often associated with high trading volume and significant price movements for pairs containing the Euro (EUR) or British Pound (GBP).
This educational example uses selected assumptions for reference calculation purposes. Real conditions may vary by broker, exchange, or instrument.
Beginner Mistake
Trading during low-volume periods (like the end of the US session leading into the Asian session) and expecting large, fast price movements.
